Official information regarding the Social Studies test is at GED.com.

The Social Studies test runs 70 minutes and is given as follows:
• approximately 35 questions
• 70 minutes
• no break
• content: reading comprehension, historical events, numbers/graphs
• calculator allowed
• “scratch paper” in the form of a marker with a wipe-off board provided

Like Reasoning Through Language Arts, Social Studies places a lot of emphasis on comprehension of reading passages.  In general terms, the passages delve into civics, government, history, economics, and geography.  Your ability to understand what you have been given to read is more important for answering questions than tapping into an encyclopedic memory.

The TI-30XS MultiView Scientific Calculator, the official calculator of the GED, will be needed for some questions in the Social Studies test.
