Overview
The GED stands for General Educational Development, although it is perhaps more commonly called a General Education Diploma or a Graduate Equivalency Degree. If you have not graduated from high school, you can take the GED instead. The GED consists of four tests: Reasoning Through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Social Studies, and Science. Passing all four tests of the GED is considered the equivalent of earning a high school diploma.
The GED can be used to get a job, get a better job, or apply to college. More than 98 percent of schools in the United States accept the GED, including community colleges and universities.
As the above chart from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows, level of education correlates with income and employability.
The GED is doable. More than 20 million people have passed it.
Even so, in order to pass the GED, you must study and stick with it.
